Dreamhack Gaming Festival, Sweden June 15th-18th

The Dreamhack gaming festival in Sönköping, Sweden is open to all ages. Dreamhack runs 24/7 over four days so don’t forget your sleeping bag. The festival holds the official world record for the largest LAN party ever in the Guinness Book of Records. In 2009 they reached 200,000 unique visitors during a single event.

Tournaments are available for everyone to take part in, from the casual gamer to the hardened pro. There are competitions in all of the major gaming genres including Team First Person Shooter, Rhythm, Racing and Sports amongst others. Dreamhack Summer will also feature the final rounds of eSportsm national championships for Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Starcraft II, Fifa 13, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.

Ticket prices vary depending on whether you want express entry to the event or access to a gigabit switch in your gaming area. Perhaps you are travelling from far away (lets say London) and don’t fancy lugging your pc kit across Europe then the event pass is for you. The event pass entitles you to entry to most of the eSports tournaments and access to sleeping areas. Train tickets from London to Copenhagen are around £140. In Copenhagen you can then hop on to a coach which will take you straight to the event.

Most of the tournaments are open to everybody and start in the BYOC areas. They then progress in to a tournament area before the finals that take place on the main stage or Dream Arena Extreme. Sponsors hold their own side tournaments throughout the event but remember you may not be able to compete if you have a day pass.

As well as loads and loads of high-octane tournaments there is also the DreamExpo where the gaming industry is on-site to show off their newest gear to the public. It is not uncommon for companies to launch new equipment at the expo.
