Gears of War: Judgement – GAME and IGN lock-in event

Gears of War: Judgement is set as a prequel to the already successful Gears of Series. In the follow up to Emergence Day you play as Damon Baird, Lieutenant. As the locust invasion spreads you lead with Kilo team and Augustus ‘Cole Train’ Cole to protect Sera from falling.

IGN are hosting Gears lock-in events at GAME stores in major cities around the country. The lock-in’s start at 9pm on 21st March, the evening before the game’s release. Unfortunately, you are required to pre-order a copy of Gears of War: Judgement from GAME in order to be in with a chance of sneaking a peak at Epic Games’ latest title. 40 winners will be selected to not only bring along 2 friends to the lock event but they also get a priority to buy their copy of the game at the midnight release. The participating GAME stores have been listed below;

London Westfield Centre, Stratford City, E15 2EN
Manchester 35 Peel Avenue, Trafford Centre, Manchester, Greater Manchester, M17 8DF
Birmingham Bullring The Bullring, Birmingham, B5 4BU
Liverpool 72 Lord Street, Liverpool, L2 1TL
Sheffield Unit 22/24, Fargate, Sheffield, S1 1LH
Bristol Unit LR53, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, Avon, BS34 5GG
Leeds White Rose Centre, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS11 8LL
Edinburgh Unit RU4, Ocean Terminal, Ocean Drive, Edinburgh, Lieth, EH6 6JJ
Glasgow 285 Provan Walk, Glasgow Fort Shopping Centre, Junction 10 – M8, Glasgow, G34 9DY
Newcastle 3 Russell Way, Metro Centre, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, NE1

To be honest I am little peeved at the fact that GAME and IGN have decided to make this a pre-order only event. It is obviously a ploy to convert interested gamers in buyers. I predict that the lock-in event is going to be massively undersubscribed. Also, I think that IGN and GAME have forgotten an important point about release events. Release events are there to attract the hardcore games to their midnight releases. Those few dedicated souls who are willing to travel through the to buy their copy first and then spend the next two days pulling a sicky to play the game. I bet that some of the chosen few will be the parents of gamers who wouldn’t even want their children to go the lock-in event. What a waste!

Gears of War: Judgement is available from the 22nd March in Europe.
